Welcome to Dark Emu Foundation

Dark Emu Foundation is a First Nations, female-led initiative dedicated to encouraging children from disadvantaged, regional, and remote communities across Australia to grow mentally, physically, emotionally, and consciously through kinship, STEM, and The Arts.

Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people were the world’s first astronomers, studying the night sky and navigating by using the stars long before Babylonian, Greek or Roman astronomers. When we look at the Milky Way, 'The Emu in the Sky' can be seen not in the stars themselves, but in the shadows that surround them.

The Dark Emu Foundation aims to reach children in spaces beyond the bright lights and inspire them to shine in their own light.

'Every child has the birthright to explore, engage and reach their infinite potential, regardless of geography or circumstance.'

Our Partners

Circa Gimuy

By exploring artistic expression through dance, performance and acrobatics, we foster creativity and self-expression in our young people. We thank Circa Gimuy for providing our children with the opportunity to showcase their talents throughout our ongoing partnership.

NASSI

Being face-to-face with 'real-life' Astronauts, learning the art of flight through hands-on simulation, meeting Geologists, and witnessing the profound role that our world-class Marine Biologists play in protecting our planet has been extraordinary. Thanks to Dr Samarra Toby and Chief Scientist Sharon Cavanagh-Luskin of The Native Academy of Space, Science and Innovation, our children in remote regions now have the capacity not only to dream big but also to find pathways to achieve great things through STEM learning experiences.

Harbrow Mentoring

The programs offered by Marc and his team have been instrumental in fostering a spirit of pride, belonging and emotional intelligence within our community. We are grateful to Harbrow Mentoring for delivering the Hawthorn Hawks Women's AFL Team's Resilience Program to our children and for developing their confidence through movement and team sports, such as the traditional indigenous game of Edor.

Illuminate FNQ

Illuminate-FNQ are dedicated to "Igniting the Future with Ancient Wisdom", empowering students through STEM innovative education and environmental intelligence. Their focus on Marine Biology and Engineering equips the next generation with the skills needed to tackle real-world challenges. We look forward to continuing our engagement and fostering our children's love for all aspects of science as future leaders.

Frequently Asked Questions

What types of educational workshops do you offer?

We partner with organisations including First Nations Science, Illuminate FNQ, Harbrow Mentoring, and Circa Gimuy to offer a variety of educational workshops focusing on STEM subjects such as robotics, coding, and engineering, as Well as Resilience Programs and Performing Arts.

How can I get involved in your community outreach initiatives?

You can get involved in our community outreach initiatives or National Roadshows by getting in touch via the contact form. You can also volunteer your time, professional suggestions or resources for inclusion in our Programs.

Do you provide any support for children in remote areas?

Yes, this is why we exist! We love providing opportunities for children in remote areas through our outreach programs and workshops. Many people assume that opportunities for regional children are fewer than in big cities. There's nothing more rewarding than witnessing that belief vanish and their eyes light up as they are exposed to their limitless potential through firsthand experiences.

“Dark Emu Foundation has truly made a difference in the lives of our children. They gain friendships, develop confidence and just come alive through these workshops.”
